Job Summary and Qualifications

The Lead Pharmacy Technician is responsible for accurately performing all advanced and basic pharmacy technician functions in a timely manner. In addition, they may be responsible for performing duties associated with Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) and other specialized duties as assigned by the pharmacy management team and under supervision of a Pharmacist.

  • Assists the Pharmacy Management by coordinating technician training and study, and acts to find operational efficiencies with technician duties, able to staff any technician position when needed, and performs packaging and buying duties when needed.
  • Ensures dispensing automation replenishment and maintenance are completed with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Assists in ensuring department meets all legal and other Regulatory Authority requirements for inspections, thereby complying with all corporate and hospital policies and procedures, promoting teamwork with pharmacists and other healthcare providers, promoting internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Performs daily ADC routines, emergency cart trays, and floor stock as needed (i.e. restocks, outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading and unloading, etc.)
  • Troubleshoots ADC issues. (i.e. orders not coming across, drawer failures, medication jams, communication failures, etc.)
  • Investigates Discrepancies on Narcotic Discrepancy Audits to determine if true discrepancy and completes Audit sheets and/or incidence reports as appropriate.
  • Accurately packages and prepares medications for dispensing as assigned
  • Performs receiving and check in of medication/supply orders as defined in policy and notifies the pharmacy inventory manager of any shortages, overages or product damage
  • Responsible for maintaining medication storage and security per regulatory requirements throughout the organization
  • Performs audits, quality control and performance improvement functions as assigned
  • Accurately performs and documents monthly medication storage area inspections as assigned
  • Performs administrative billing functions
  • Completes OR charges in a timely manner as assigned
  • Assists the pharmacists in clinical reviews as assigned (i.e. medication reconciliation, triaging reports, etc).
  • Accurately and safely compounds and label medications and parenteral admixtures
  • Always utilizes aseptic techniques in the preparation of parenteral compounding
  • Compliant with all USP 797 daily/monthly requirements (i.e. Cleaning laminar airflow cabinets and biological safety cabinets, wearing personal protective equipment, etc.)
  • Compounds chemotherapy preparation per established protocol

What qualifications you will need:
  • Completion of Vocational and Technical program required
  • Florida Pharmacy Tech license required
  • Pharmacy Tech Certification by PTCB required
  • 1 to 3 years of Pharmacy experience required
  • 3 years of hospital experience as a Pharmacy Tech preferred
